The Tug's Future
Steam Tug Baltimore spans two centuries of American maritime history. Though built in 1906, much of her construction design and technology date to 1857; her work history extends into the late 20th century. As America changed, so did some of the "why's" and "how to's" of the tug boat.
The Baltimore and Chesapeake Steamboat Company plans to interpret this unique tug from her full spectrum of time periods, duties, and influences upon American history. Yes, tug boats influenced our history by changing the logistics of our freightage, the management of our ports, and the job openings available to both native citizens and recent immigrants. Become involved in these few aspects of tug history, and you'll find that the influences go much deeper, and reach even farther.
The Good Work continues. The Baltimore is going to need serious hull work in the future and all the fortunes of becoming a Nonprofit Organization depends on many many Tug FANS like yourself who would be willing to help her stay in the business of providing Historic Knowledge to the community of Baltimore as well as the United States and our international friends and maritime enthusiasts.
