Skinner & Sons Shipyard
The mission of the Baltimore and Chesapeake Steamboat Company is to maintain the steam tug Baltimore and operate it as an educational museum highlighting the tug's unique place in American history. The Company intends to keep the Baltimore on the active list of historic vessels in America through our web site, publications, exhibits, and participation with other museums. It is our hopes to return her to an active role as a steaming visitor to events around Baltimore and beyond. Interpretation of this unique tug will focus on:

  • The 1906 beginnings of the steam tug Baltimore.

  • The builder (Skinner & Sons Shipbuilding) and their place in Baltimore History.

  • Baltimore's role as "The Inspector" along the City's waterfront community.

  • Port of Baltimore and Chesapeake Bay career highlights.

  • Preservation and restoration process.

  • The historical place of steam tugs in the development of 19th and early 20th century America.

  • Life style of steam tug crews and their families.
